Charlotte is the nation’s second largest banking center, but it hasn’t always been a financial hub. In the 1700s, Charlotte established itself as a trading post along two major Native American trading routes. After the Civil War, it grew into a cotton processing center and a railroad hub. In World War I, the federal government established Camp Greene in the area, bringing with it a large military presence.
Employment trends look very positive in Mecklenburg County. Over the last 13 years, employment in Mecklenburg County has grown 25 percent, compared to 13 percent nationwide. Economists expect that growth to continue into the near future. North Carolina as a whole has consistently been called the state with the best business climate in the nation.
This is just a sample of what you'll find in the complete Charlotte guide.
